My strength in my research paper was providing a lot of good information about my author in order of events. Something I need to work on is knowing what things to cite and making sure I signal phrase all of my quotes. I thought I did well overall for my first research paper and hope to do better on the next one in 5 weeks.

A Man Should Believe In himself
Emerson urges his readers to retain the outspokenness of a small child who freely speaks his mind. A child he has not yet been corrupted by adults who tell him to do otherwise. He also urges readers to avoid envying or imitating others viewed as models of perfection; instead, he says, readers should take pride in their own individuality and never be afraid to express their own original ideas. In addition, he says, they should refuse to conform to the ways of the popular culture and its shallow ideals; rather they should live up to their own ideals, even if doing so reaps them criticism and denunciation.

First Series Yet To Come
Ralph Waldo Emerson has written great works of opinion writing that make you think about his point of views. He was seen as a champion of individualism and a prescient critic of the countervailing pressures of society. I haven't had time to start reading his essays yet, but I plan on reading Page 1-118; his 'First Series'. They include essays such as History, Self- Reliance, Friendship, Circles and more.

I've read Self Reliance In english 3A and found it interesting. I'll see what his poetry is all about in the first section of his essays.
